Cecropia Watch, Pt. 4







So . . . the moth must fit inside this pupa--again, see the tiny wings? But those wings must also expand to be able to fly away.  


So the first day of their lives--after they crawl from their cocoons--they do little more than pump fluid from their abdomens (almost like blood) into their soft, fragile wings, so the wings can grow bigger and stiffer.

So, two cocoons had hatched. There were still four left to watch . . .
